  2. Here at 16 Steps, we are proud to present the sixth in our series of releases from students of our London-based Production School. ‘Lucky Strike’ is a superb remix package featuring reworkings from Rick Maia and 16 Steps course tutor Alex Parsons. Both mixes demonstrate the deeper side of Tech House with grace, yet contrast greatly in their construction. We hope you enjoy them.

    About The Release:
This is an astounding production debut from Rick Maia, whose reputation as a DJ in the London Tech House Scene has earned him regular sets at most of the Capital’s top venues as well as residencies for ‘Going Palces’ and ‘Gifted Presents’ at Ministry Of Sound and previously, Turnmills.

Maia’s remix is mature and intelligently crafted, combining warm throbbing bass with luscious oscillating synths and sparse percussive FX. The deep, melodic breakdown glistens with harmonics, while a scattering of drums enter with growing intensity before launching into a deep and percussive groove to the finish. An interesting and wonderful journey.

Parsons takes things a little deeper from the outset, relying on the original’s percussion, a punchy sub and deep pads to hold the groove. Hints of the original can be heard as they are twisted in and out of the foreground, while Parsons cleverly uses harmony to create a constant build in intensity. The track’s unusual structure introduces a solid new bassline at the peak, transforming the vibe completely. Definitely one for the main rooms.
